The post for week 10

So we are now in week 10 of this term and i am really excited to almost be done with it. I'm sitting here now with moo who, if you are one of my many fallowers.....haha......, you know is my cockatoo. Now this past week he did something really bad. As i was out of the house slaving away at work, he ate up my Internet stick, so now i have to come all the way to the uni to do work. So if anyone want a roasted cockatoo let me know...haha....just kidding.

On a different note if any one out there is really good at stats i could use a little help with the Chi squared stuff. I get the reason for doing it and all, but i cant get xcell to pump out the right numbers.

And on an even different note, i am pretty pumped that it started raining today. This could mean that it might get hot here soon, which means i can got surfing and kiting and live on a beach again.

Well if you know stats and want to give me a hand just post something on my blog

Thank u

billy

The Post that never got posted

Hey everyone just thought i would actually post this one since i saved it in work and never put it up....i know nice work on my part.

So this week i was walking down the road and i notices this guy running. Then i noticed that he had no shoes on. This was a weird thing to see because he was wearing a running singlet and shorts, and he also looked like a runner. Then i looked again and he was wearing shoes that looked like feet. SO there's my exciting life story for this week.

So i am wondering how many people out there are actually reading my blog. So, i am asking anyone who is reading through these blogs to at least put up a post with some full stops in it or something. I think this blog has potential but it needs a kick start, and i think that even if lecturers or if the people high up in the university would give out a memo to post stuff on our blogs then we could really get this program going.

Well if you are reading this then you better post something on it.

Another Week Gone By

So I live with a cockatoo and every time it rains he does the weirdest thing. When it starts to rain he gets all excited and runs outside into the biggest puddle he can find and takes a bath. He then spreads his wings out and does a little dance. I posted a movie and some pics up with this post if you want to have a look.

On this past Friday I had my first big assessment due and I only just got it in on time. I forget how long it can take to do up all you referencing, and pretty up your assignment the way the lecturer wants it. So don’t make the same mistake I did and leave that part to the last minute.

Last week I also got tickets to go back to Alaska again. I’ll be there for two months of the winter and I can’t wait. I think one of the main things I miss about home is the snow. I guess it compares to the beach for someone who has lived in a place like Australia his or her whole lives. I can’t wait to go snowboarding, snow machining, building snowmen, and go hunting.

I think I miss hunting the most. I know most people here call it killing, and make it seem like that’s all hunters are, but in Alaska there is a real purpose to it. In the town I am from there are only about 500 people and most live off subsistence hunting. To get any imported meat cost way too much so people go out and get their own. So there’s a little background on what I plan to do over my summer holidays.

Uni Assessments :(

So this week I have 3 uni assessments due. This is what i warned you all about in previous post, don't let uni get ahead of you. This is probably the most common thing uni students encounter, but the secret is not to panic. The reason to hold your composer is that you are studying with hundreds of other uni students doing the same thing as you. Don't be afraid to ask for help cause some day down the line someone will need your help as well. Also, don't be afraid of your professors. Yes they may seem a bit intimidating in class, but when you get them one on one you can usually get on their soft side. One of my professors i had in my first term made a very good point. He said, "Your professors are like tools you can use to pass your courses. They are the product that you buy when you come to uni." He continued on explaining this for a long time and after i awoke from a quick nap he asked, "if we , professors, are not good products would you not complain or just stop shopping here?" So i better get back to my uni, but keep that point in mind and never let your professors tern you back when you need help. They get paid to teach us, not to scare us or make it hard to learn.

People of my gym

Well hello out there,

So today I added my newest member to the people of my gym. He is called "Tails", yeah that's a Sonic reference. He has this rat tail that is so long and unkempt it could help tailless possums all over Australia. The other members on my list are "The Screamer", "Buff Grandma", and my all time favorite "Copy Cat".

"The Screamer" is a man who, for some reason, can't help but let the rest of the gym know he is working out to the max. As he lift any weight or does any workout he yells so loud everyone stops to look at him. Now that was a bit of an exaggeration but you get my point.

"Buff Grandma" is an elderly lady who can lift more then I can. I've only seen her a few times, but i am ready to ask her for a training session. Think Arnold in his prime but as your grandmother.

Finally I come to "Copy Cat". He is probably up there with the strongest guys who go to any gym, but he insists on fallowing the smallest guy, who unfortunately was me last time, and doing the exact same workout only with huge weights. He was like my shadow that is cast down on the ground but is way bigger then you.

So that was a bit off topic but if anyone has something similar in their everyday life do share.

Sports Clubs

So this week is my third game of the beach volleyball season so on that note ill talk about joining clubs here in Rocky. I've noticed that the campus here in Rocky doesn't have many club sports set up at this moment in time. If you are into sports there are ways of working around this. I joined the ISA (Indoor Sports Arena) volleyball club and play competitive beach volleyball. There is also a Basketball club around town as well as many footy clubs. I found that by joining these clubs you can socialize with people who are interested in the same sports you are, and make a few friends and connections around town.

Last term a few friends and i made an indoor soccer team and played c grade soccer. That was a heap of fun. We had fun, got a good workout, and at the same got to know each other better. The best part about most sports here in Rocky or in Australia for that matter is that they can run year round. There are usually a few seasons every year for each sport, and at the volleyball courts we even switch up partners each season in order to mix it up and meet other players.

So when coming here to rocky be sure and look up a few sports you like to play and get out there and have fun. Sitting in your room all day doing uni is boring and it makes it hard to meet new people, make new friends and enjoy your time in Australia

sydney trip

So the Uni break is finally here. It is now time to get out of Rocky and go somewhere different. With that in mind I’ll talk about my experiences in Sydney last year.

When going to Sydney the place to stay is Kings Cross. Now a lot of people will say Kings Cross is a bad place, but in reality it was a bad place 30 or so years ago. Kings Cross is just a cheap place for backpackers to stay and also a great place for nightlife.

So we stayed in Kings Cross and had a blast. We went to the Opera house, and if you ever plan to go to Sydney be sure and see a play there. We also went across the river to the Sydney Zoo, which was a blast. If you don’t like to plan things walking the streets of Sydney is always a good way to go. On every corner of Sydney there are old buildings with tons of history, stores to shop in, and plenty of good photo ops.

So I went to Sydney for my break, but there are so many other places to go and things to see.

Random + Study Habits

Hey guys,

Just got done packing for may trip down to Brisbane for a 21st. Got some super cheap tickets through Tiger so be sure and write that name down. They are a great airlines if you only take a hand carry.

This week i also went to see Inception, and i must say it is an amazing movie and worth seeing. The plat is awesome and the whole movie sends your mind spinning out of control. I would use way better adjectives but im not much of a writer.

On another note i thought i would be boring and talk about study habits here in aus. When going to school here if your not used to this type of system it is easy to get off track. A lot of time is spent studying on your own. It is also hard because the aussie students like to have fun but they are also supper good at studying. They may look like they have been messing around all weekend when really they did all the fun stuff, as well as got 2 assessments done.

So if you plan to come here to exchange and want to keep good grades be sure and put time aside to study cause all the other students are.

Places around Rocky

Hello to all,

Today i am going to tell you about the surrounding areas near Rocky. Many people might tell you that Rocky is boring and that there is nothing to do, but i have found that you can get to a lot of outlying areas and sites within a 2 hour drive. Some of my favorite places just a short drive away are; Agnes Waters, The Bouldercombe Gorge, Yepoon, & Mt. Morgan. You can also take a short ferry ride to the islands just off the Yepoon coast.

Agnes waters is located in the small town of 1770 about 2 hours out of Rocky and is a small surfing town. The waves aren't very big but its good fun if you just want a weekend at the beach. There is a campground there that is only 12 a night per head. The locals are all pretty cool, and there is plenty of fun stuff around.

The Bouldercombe Gorge is located just southwest of Rocky and is only about 30 min drive away. It's a nice hike and a great view at the top. Don't blink though, or you might drive through Bouldercombe and miss it.

Yepoon is a beach town about 30 min from rocky. Theres not really any surf there but its a great place to get away. You can catch the ferry from Yepoon to the islands and back for around 50 bucks and that is a sight to see. You can do some snorkeling and get a great view of the Reef or just relax on the beach and have a few drinks.

Mt. Morgan is a cool place to visit. It is a small mining town full of history. There are many sights to see and the ladies at the old train station can tell you all about it. I haven't done it all yet but plan to.

Well there are just a few of the spots i have been and enjoyed. I'll see if i can find some photos of it to put up, but there is alot of other things around that i will talk about in later posts.

Going Home

Hey readers of my amazing blog about my amazing life,

This post is mainly to let those people who are questioning whether or not to go on exchange because they are scared of having their lives completely change. Yes some things will change but your trip away will also show you who your real friends are and also make you appreciate having them.

I just recently came back form the states, and let me just say that my trip home was much different then i expected. My anticipation of going home was that everyone would have changed into completely different people and i would be way out of the loop, and i was completely wrong. Almost everything was the same, which in one sense seems kinda boring to be going home to, but in reality it was great and I felt like I never left. I did the exact same things as before i left and enjoyed every minute of it.

Once i had been there for a while i really thought about what i want in life and how much time we really have. I realized that for the next two years i will be studying in australia, but then i have so many more years to enjoy other places. I also realized that home in the states will most likely always be there for me to go back to.

So to finish up, if you are scared of leaving one life to step into another, more often then not, the old life will still be there if the now part of your life isn't what you expected. So i will once again finish with my cheesy line, there is a whole world to be seen and all it takes is the first steps to open your eyes to the rest of your life.

When I decided to start studying in Australia the one thing that helped me the most was the support of the people around me. I believe that this blog can give everyone a chance to have someone there to encourage him or her to study in another country.

I chose to study in Australia not only to see the wonderful environment such as, The Great Barrier Reef, but also for the people and culture. Australia has to be the number one place for accepting and laid back people. When I arrived here the first thing I noticed was how outgoing and fun the Australians I met everyday were. I have been living in Australia for a year now and I have yet to find more then just a few flaws that every country is sure to have. By joining in on this blog I hope to show other students who want to study abroad that it is an incomparable feeling and eye-opening experience that will change their lives forever.

I am back in the states right now and I have been sharing my stories with everyone I know and I don’t know if words can really show them how much different I see the world. There are so many places to see and so many opportunities out there for anyone who is willing to take the big step and change. I know that once my studies in Australia are done I am going to continue on my journeys to see more of the world.

To wrap this all up, I want to be part of this blog to show students who don’t know what they want to do after high school, after college, or even people who are bored of the same old thing everyday, that there is a whole world to be seen and that all it takes is the first steps to open their eyes to the rest of their lives.
